Qolora Mouth
Qolora Mouth on the Wild Coast is a small resort offering a lovely beach as well as excellent swimming and fishing.
There are two interesting sights in the area, both historically unfortunate. One is the wreck of the ship Jacaranda which sank in 1971 on rocks nearby Qolora.
The other is the "echanted pool" of Nongqawuse on the Gxara River. Looking into this pool, in 1856, the 14 year old girl had a vision of how the British would be destroyed if her tribe slew all its cattle and destroyed its crops. Unbelievably, they did this and the result was the death by starvation the following year of some 25,000 of the tribe. The remainder were assisted by neighbouring tribes and European settlers.
